What is Spiritualism?
Spiritualism is a philosophy based upon the belief that there is a continuous existence of the spirit and soul and that after death it is possible to communicate with the departed across the veil through the means of mediumship.
This basic understanding allows us to know that the movement from life to death is just a transition - a shift to another level of being and consciousness. Spiritualists believe that life is eternal. Whilst on this earth we are spiritual beings having an earthly experience. On passing we let go of our physical body and our emotions, personality and all that is our spirit moves onto the spiritual plane.
As spiritualists we believe that there is an infinite intelligence, a supreme power, present everywhere. Some people call this power God; others may name this power The Great White Spirit, The Healing Spirit or the Divine. This loving energy is known by many, many names and by all religions. A spiritualist accepts that whatever name you choose, this all knowing, ever-present energy resides in the physical world, in nature, in spirit and across the entire universe.
Spiritualism has no dogma. We accept and recognise that every Spiritualist has their own individual belief system and understanding based upon The 7 Principles of Spiritualism:
1. The Fatherhood of God
2. The Brotherhood of Man
3. The Communion of Spirit and the Ministry of Angels
4. The Continuous Existence of the Soul
5. Personal Responsibility
6. Compensation and Retribution thereafter for all Good and Evil Deeds here on Earth
7. The Eternal Progress of Each Soul
As we learn to align with these rules, at our own pace and through our own learning experiences, we grow to discover the God Within. This allows us to flow into a greater understanding and knowledge of the Divine Source – that source which is within each of us. As we begin to recognise and accept that we are part of the whole, then we also experience a greater compassion for all sentient beings including ourselves.
It is this knowledge and acceptance that supports us in creating a loving, nurturing energetic field and we discover our own divinity, freedom and inner peace. We believe that these seven principles form a foundation for a compassionate, caring and fulfilling life.
